Dear buddies, friends and supporters,
In our increasingly digitalized world, protecting our children online is invaluable. The worrying rise in cybercrime against children, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has highlighted the urgent need for targeted action – a problem that exists worldwide including Nepal. Therefore, we are proud to announce further details of our latest project for which we are collaborating with Voice of Children: “Stopping cybercrime against children: More safety and protection online”.
Children and young people are often unable to protect themselves from violence, especially sexualized violence online. Parents and children often do not know what to do if their child has become a victim of online violence. Furthermore, children and young people are not sufficiently involved in decision-making processes and lobbying and advocacy activities to improve child protection systems, particularly with regard to enforcing the right to protection from violence online.
What is it about
It is with great pleasure that we announce the launch of our program aimed at empowering children and young people within their communities. By setting up children’s clubs and youth groups, we are empowering young people to take an active stand against online sexual abuse. Our aim is to give them the tools and knowledge to not only protect themselves, but also to act as leaders in their communities and raise awareness of these important issues. This marks the beginning of a crucial initiative to promote a safer online environment for our children.
Planned activities
- Establishment of 5 children’s clubs in schools with the participation of 75 children.
- Monthly meetings with the members of the kids clubs.
- Five capacity building trainings on online child abuse prevention for 75 children.
- Organizing an advanced training for 20 selected peer educators.
- Conducted 480 community orientation sessions by peer educators, making 7,200 children aware of protection from sexual abuse and learning how to protect themselves.
- Indirect sensitization of 15,000 children and adults in the community.
- Monthly meetings with peer educators.
Monitoring and evaluation
Our initiative will be implemented in close collaboration with child protection stakeholders, the Department of Education and IT companies to make best use of their expertise. The Director of VOC will monitor project activities with support from the Safeguarding Lead and Project Manager. Our monitoring methods will include regular tracking through weekly meetings to review progress and challenges, data collection by gathering ongoing data on reported cases and interventions, quality assessment by reviewing the effectiveness of implemented strategies and close tracking and monitoring of children’s club activities in schools and communities.
This first phase marks only the beginning of our efforts. With a budget of โฌ5,000, we are laying the foundations for a safer digital environment for our children. Our activities include the creation of five kids clubs with a total of 75 children, capacity building training, peer educator training and sensitizing thousands in the community with essential information on how to stay safe online.
We are convinced that together we can build an effective defense against online predators and secure the future of our children.
But to do this, we need your support.Your donation will enable us to expand our reach, deliver more comprehensive training and empower more children and communities against the risks of cybercrime.
We are committed to transparency and accountability in this project. Regular updates, event reports and assessments of progress will be made available to all our stakeholders.Join us in this crucial fight. Together we can ensure a safer online world for our children.
Every contribution brings us closer to a goal where every child is protected from online dangers.
Thank you for your support.
