Dear buddies, we have some great news for you!

Today, we want to share with you a wonderful program that has been made possible thanks to your support. In August, our partner VOC organized the “Celebrate Planet Earth” art program at their shelter. What is a shelter? It is a place where children in need can find protection and care. This program brought together 29 children, many of whom are street kids, to creatively express their love for the environment.

This program was more than just an art event—it was an important opportunity for these children to build a deeper connection with nature, better understand environmental issues such as floods and landslides, and express their thoughts and feelings through art. Through such initiatives, we help raise a new generation that is not only creative but also has a strong bond with our Earth and is committed to its protection.

  • Encourages Creative Thinking: Creativity encourages children to develop innovative solutions to the challenges they encounter in their surroundings. Such skills are crucial for addressing current environmental problems.
  • Builds Emotional Resilience: Engaging in creative activities helps children process their emotions and build resilience—especially important in a country like Nepal, which is still suffering from the effects of natural disasters and economic hardships.
  • Enhances Environmental Awareness: Through programs focused on the environment, children learn to appreciate nature and act as advocates for sustainable practices in their communities.
  • Empowers the Next Generation: Creativity enables children to strengthen their self-confidence and realize their full potential—an important step, especially for disadvantaged children who often do not have the same opportunities.

Nepal faces major environmental problems that threaten people’s lives:

  • Floods and Landslides: The geographical location and monsoon seasons make Nepal particularly vulnerable to these natural disasters, which often have devastating consequences.
  • Deforestation: Intensive agricultural use, deforestation, and infrastructure projects have led to the destruction of forests, contributing to erosion and the loss of biodiversity.
  • Pollution: Rapid urbanization and industrialization have significantly worsened air and water quality, endangering people’s health.
  • Climate Change: As a Himalayan state, Nepal is heavily affected by the impacts of climate change. Glacier melt and unpredictable weather conditions threaten agricultural production and water supply.

Through creative programs like “Celebrate Planet Earth” and our participation in Lollapalooza’s Green Kiez, we raise awareness of these issues and empower the next generation to be part of the solution.

During one of our recent Zoom calls with our partners in Kathmandu, we learned that the children are already eagerly preparing for their participation in Lollapalooza. There, they will showcase their creativity and raise awareness of important environmental issues. This opportunity shows how powerful fostering creativity and environmental awareness in young people can be.

  • Donate: Your support helps us continue to offer programs like “Celebrate Planet Earth,” providing creative and educational experiences for children in Nepal. Donate here.
  • Spread the Word: Share this post and help us raise awareness of the importance of creativity and environmental education.
  • Get Involved: Consider how you can get involved as a volunteer or partner with BBuildsUp Nepal to expand our impact.

Let’s strengthen the next generation through creativity and build a more sustainable future for everyone. A huge thank you to our supporters and partners—your commitment makes a real difference!
